Two weeks ago today I was returning home from Glastonbury, this seems a life time ago. Spending a week at Glastonbury Festival was one the of the best experiences I have had!
Sunday 20th June, many phone calls and a car full of alcohol and camping things myself and Lucy headed south to Bedford to Holly's house ready to travel to Glastonbury early Monday morning. A trip to the pub with Holly's friends Sunday night seemed a great idea, forgetting it was to be followed by an 8am start Monday morning. 3 hours later, showered, eaten, a trip to the garage, and pharmacy we repacked the car, deciding to leave to bottles of water in order to fit more Strongbow in and with a squashed Lucy in the back of the car we set off for the last 4 hours of the journey. Holly the driver, me acting as the sat nav and Lucy providing the entertainment the journey flew with our excitement! After Arriving and attempting to build a 7 man tent, we failed and got help from 3 guys. An early night was in order as we had a 5:30am alarm set ready for work!
Tuesday started off with a full breakfast followed by being hurried into the back of a jeep and being deposited at our place of work for the week. The three of us spent the day making friends with guys we would be working with whilst sitting on a bridge in the sun for 12hrs. The easiest days work yet! Spending the night round a camp fire by our tent with everyone.
Wednesday after work, we got to go and explore the place. Although nothing was really going on, we met up with Holly's home friends and walked around to see what we could find. We were overwhelmed by the place. We all had only been to Leeds/Reading Festival in the past.. and this was no comparison.
Thursday was a busier day at work, me and Lucy running up and down fields. We were given the hospitality and disabled parking fields, little did we know we would be parking celebrities! We had Pixie Geldoph, Kelly Osbourne, Alexa Chung, Alex Turner, Henry Holland, Dizzie Rascals Crew, Franz Ferdinand that I can remember off the top of my head. the 3 of us were very excited! Thursday night was spent in the Dance Village with Holly's home friends and some friends from work. The Dance Village included 3 big dance tents, 'Cubehenge' (the stonge henge recreated flashing colours creating an outdoor club) and The Pussy Parlure, which we loved and spent the night in.
Friday after work, we had the quickest shower and headed to see some music. Mumford & Sons, Dizzie Rascal, Florence & the Machine, The XX and Boys Noize to name a few. Meeting up with Holly's home friends again we headed over to an area called 'Shangri-La'. a night time area. The place is completely indescribable, with dj's in large mechanically creatures, with fire and flames. It also included The Hub, the centre of Shangri-La was a town square and a Hotel club. I loved this place, and wanted to spend every night here.
Saturday our day off and sleep in as we hoped! But the weather being too hot, and our joke of a boss waking us through a megaphone outside our tent, we were up for just after 8. We attempted to sleep outside of the tent on the grass for an hour but soon gave up. With no shade around, we all suffered from too much time in the sun. However sheltering behind ice cream vans some acts we managed to see included Laura Marling, Jamie T, N-Dubz, The Cribs, Seasick Steve, The Dead Weather, and Delphic. This night we headed to 'The Unfair Ground' an area which could be described as 'the dark side'. When we entered the atmosphere is unreal, mysterious and you can't quite take everything in. Including a real Royal Navy helicopter nightclub, an Acid House, hanging cars from the sky, somewhere you have to visit yourself to take in. At the back of this was 'Stummerville' a campfire you sit around listening to acoustic music from bands like the Bombay Bicycle Club. We were all super tired this night but it was somewhere I'm glad I got to see.
Sunday was back to work, and Lucy and myself were beyond tired and were creating each others entertainment through dancing, singing, making up songs and games to pass our time! This was our last night, we ventured to see more music including, Stevie Wonder, LCD Soundsystem, Crystal Castles and the Correspondents in The Pussy Parlure they were aaaamazzing, I dont know how he dances like he does!! The last night was my favourite, the 3 of us spending it together.
With over 20 different areas and 45 stages some of these including a circus tent, in and outdoor, with street entertainment.
'The Park' which was one of our favourite areas, provided a more chilled out vibe, with quirky sit down areas, a stage where the likes of The XX and Laura Marling played, indoor restaurants, a ribbon tower which you could view the whole of Glastonbury from and a hollywood style Glastonbury lettering across the hill.
Within The Park was the 'Rabbit Hole' which was themed Alice in Wonderland meets the Playboy mansion, which could be seen as the land of the unexpected from tea party trance party to disco dancefloors and caterpillars. Also within the arena was the 'Green Fields', these showed traditional skills with creativity. Everything man made, one of the Green Fields including a healing field, where there was cures for anything including hangovers and teepees.
The Glade set in the woodland with electro, techno and trance music with people Like SubFocus djing. There was also many effects throughout the place.
