Trends

As probably mentioned before, I have a HUGE interest in trends. As part of my self promotion work I have a scrap book of cut out trends that I have recently noticed over the past 6 months. Here are a couple of the pages

LOVE!

Last Monday I headed to Waterstones to purchase the magazine LOVE, £5, which I had been waiting for. The magazine has eight different covers each with a different model icon on the front representing the ideal beauty in fashion today. Waterstones had five different ones to choose from, I went with Naomi Campbell. I did want Kate Moss but they had sold out of this one. The front covers are amaazing and inside it shows individual photoshoots of the eight different fashion icons, Kate Moss,Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, Lara Stone, Natalia Vodianova, Daria Werbowy, Jeneil Williams and Kristen McMenamy photographed by Mart Alas and Marcus Piggot.

"For this issue of LOVE, we took eight women who are generally acknowledged as the most beautiful in the world, got them to show off their bodies -- widely regarded as the most perfect in the world -- and photographed them all in exactly the same position for the cover. We did this to show how much they differed physically from one another, which is why we also printed their measurements. The point is that 'perfection' is not fixed, timeless or transcendent. It varies, as the measurements of our cover girls show."

Inside the magazine, theres an interview and photoshoot with my favourite Lily Allen, Calvin Klein and hundreds of photoshoots which I just wanted to put all over my bedroom wall but know I can't rip out of this magazine!

Alexander McQueen

I have never known a lot about this particular designer but after visiting his New York store last January with my course I took a great interest in his catwalk line. London Fashion Week is featuring a tribute to the designer, whose attention-grabbing designs helped re-energize British fashion after a fallow period following the punk explosion in the 1970s. He was known for his dramatic statement pieces and impeccable tailoring, dressing celebrities from Cameron Diaz to Lady Gaga and influenced a generation of designers. Also been named fashion designer of the year four times.
Alexander McQueen.

Premiere Vision

Whilst in Paris we visited the huge industry trade show, Premiere Vision. It was amaaaazing! Stepping through the door I was overwhelmed, been greeted with a pass to allow me entry to the show and different halls which normally on industry brands can get their hands on. I felt a little bit important! Wandering into the trade show I was in my element as it was a trade show on trends and forecasting, the part of fashion I LOVE.
Heading over to the general forum and reading what pantone colours, collections of colours and names were predicted and chosen for the fashion industry for Spring/Sumer 2011. Followed by samples of fabrics for the industry to buy. Wandering around the 6 halls I saw just how a fashion brand runs. Sending an employee to the show choosing fabric, colours, looking at trends of clothing, components from zips to ribbons all the way through to manufacture.
I gathered information, informing me that the Spring Summer 2011 trends will 'shuffle fashion periods..to structure solutions that are more natural, simpler and more accurate.' 'cultivate the pertinence of blends over pure compositions....nourishes surprise, convey the positive side to risk and imagines a nature that is new, strange and marvelous, beneficial and futuristic. It sparks a taste for relaxed elegance and confirms the creative power to create dense and fluid, lively and deliciously material silhouettes. A season like a powerful, substantial and lightweight motor to banish monotony and show itself in broad day light.

'Sparkling Nonchalance, Regenerated Tailoring, Cheeky Opulence, Seduction, Distinction, Relax and Pulsation are the collections which will be featured in shops within a years time.'

The show was very strict on security therefore no pictures could be taken unfortunately apart from the few I managed to sneak on my phone. However I came across these on the internet.
This shows the different stands around halls 5 and 6, it was like a maze trying to navigate yourself around!

New Semester

New semester therefore means new work and deadlines! ahhhh This semester I am working on a module called Brand Position. This looks at how lifestyle trends impact the development of brand identities, where these trends come from, how they are predicted and looking at the cycle of communication of trends in society and design (street wear and catwalk) through the media and eventually to the consumer.

I'm particularly interested in this module as I have a HUGE interest in trends and prediction of fashion.

  1. I will firstly be working with Topman Design, this is a premium collection which is only stocked online, London Oxford Circus and Manchester. I will work with another girl from my course, 3 individuals from Fashion Communication and Promotion and a Fashion Design team. I'm quite excited!
  2. Followed by Topman I have an Easter project on my dream job
  3. Then lastly a project with Jonathan Aston where I have to create a 2 year strategic growth plan.
I'm very much looking forward to this work but will mean I am going to have no sleeeeep for 2 months again! arghhh

Paris & Galeries Lafayette

I'm back from Paris along with the other 90 students that came along and after an amazing time and sharing it with a group of 11 students its back to uni work. After 2 weeks off its back to lectures and semesters 2 lot of work been set. Time for no life again! I took over 400 pictures in Paris and I have a lot to blog about!
Check: Paris Journal to see what I got up to.

Whilst in Paris we visited Galeries Lafayette, a huge department store with 10 floors and three separate buildings, menswear, womenswear and home-ware. The architecture around the main department store, looking up from the beauty floor was amazing!
Within the department store we visited the the Chanel Boutique. A MUST visit for myself when I saw it. The small boutique was completely black and white with tiny Chanel writing across the centre of each window. The boutique contained bags, clothes and shoes. Walking through I noticed some fabulous clothing and noted how much the group of us did not fit in with the customers in there purchasing goods. As part of their sheleving and window display I noticed this tennis racket with the Chanel logo on it. What have Chanel not done?!
Lastly within the basement, shoe floor, I came across these super cute ballet shoes from Marc by Marc Jacobs. I want a pair!!

Chanel Spring/Summer 2010

For the first time this year I got to look at Chanel's new Spring/Summer 2010 advertising campaign in March's Vogue. It is starring models Claudia Schiffer, Freja Beha Erichsen and Baptiste Giabiconi. I loved the advertising campaign from the moment I set my eyes on it, not only just because of my love for Chanel but also the actual shot. It is shot in Buenos Aires with Karl Lagerfeld on set. The location seems perfect, a complete contrast to the glamour clothing, from the historical location.
Schiffer is seen to be wearing head to toe Chanel including a black lace dress, quilted Chanel purse and a gaucho hat. I haven't seen all the set of images yet but from what I have seen they do seem perfect for the brand! They aren't bright and stand out at your face however they suit the brand.
Looking into the pictures I am quite surprised at how well Freja fits in with the brands image, as I have associated it for my whole life with an older woman, which is probably due to my assoication with the Chanel No.5 pefume, however she seems to bring her young edgy look well to the brand.

Ethical Emma

Emma Watson, actress and model has found time to design a collection for People Tree putting together a collection which she is proud of in terms of ethics and designs. The collection is available from People Tree, ASOS.com and John Lewis stores.
'I am delighted that Emma decided to help People Tree showing a new generation just how desirable, wearable and affordable Fair Trade fashion can bed,' the founder of People Tree, Safia Minney explained.
I think the collection is pretty good, I quite like it.

Shoppping Trip

Today I went shopping with my birthday money. I came across many lovely things I could have bought.. but kept thinking do I reallllllly need this? No, I actually need none of it! HOWEVER… with half an hour to spare before meeting my friend for a nice Nando’s lunch I headed to Topshop. Walking into the changing room with 8 items, I thought to myself I couldn’t purchase all of this. I ended up buying these lovely shoes, which I did need, a little… I guess! AND they are very nice and were cheap at only £18.

Plus also purchasing this...

which I do intend to wear as a top….somehow. I did very nearly purchase a nice stripy Eiffel Tower jumper and flower crop top the price of £38 (jumper) and £22 (top) when I didn’t actually need them it made me put them down!

Lets seee what exciting things I may buy tomorrow in Nottingham shoppping!

Birthday pieces

My birthday last week and with a busy week for myself, as when a normal week consists of uni and a couple nights out, I had five nights out a hand in date, uni work then a trip home for 3 days. I did fall behind slightly with my blogging! Going to try and make up for it.

My birthday I was very lucky and received some really nice presents :). From my brother I received some lace leggings from Topshop which I LOVE! I am yet to find/create an outfit to wear them with yet, but I do hope to take them on an outing soon!

I also received a black cardigan. This was from my cousins girlfriends range, SylviebeGladys. Sarah makes clothing and jewellery, which I do already have, a lot of. A pearl bow necklace which I wear everyday is one of my favourite pieces. The cardigan I had seen and worn before when I helped her on her stall at Christmas in Harrogate. It’s a black cardigan, that you wear back to front with the buttons and buttonholes at the back which are all vintage buttons. Also one of my new favourite pieces.

Which my bundle of Euros which I also received for my birthday I am looking forward to visiting some French boutiques to see what exciting things I find.
